HE WHO IS FAITHFUL

He Who Is Faithful

God is faithful in character and in His promises. He remains reliable when our plans falter and when our hearts grow weary. The Bible reveals this for us at the center of every era. The Psalmist declared that the word of the Lord is right and all His works are done in truth (Psalm 33:4). Abraham believed the Lord, and He counted it to him for righteousness (Genesis 15:6). Faith in action pleases God, and He honors those hearts who trust Him. The faithfulness of God is not a fairy tale or a mythological idea to be debated, but the very reality that grounds our hearts and minds in truth as believers of the Gospel.

Deuteronomy 7:9 tells us that God is faithful and keeps covenant and mercy with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations. This loyalty does not fade with time or circumstance. In times of trouble, the Lord remains faithful and ever present. The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning, and great is Thy faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23). The New Testament confirms this confidence. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that hath promised (Hebrews 10:23). We are reminded to cling to what God has spoken because he will bring it to pass, and through him we are called to the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Corinthians 1:9).

Even when we stumble, the love, grace, and mercy of God remain. 2 Timothy 2:12 warns of the real consequences of denying Christ through disobedience, and 2 Timothy 2:13 grounds those warnings in the immutability of God. His faithfulness is not conditional on our faithfulness. That is just who God is. Thus, His promises and His judgments are equally certain because He is faithful and cannot deny Himself. In other words, God will not bend the rules or change His nature to accommodate our disobedience. The psalmist says, Your faithfulness is unto all generations thou hast established the earth and it abideth (Psalm 119:90). He also says, β€œThe mercy of the Lord is in the heavens and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds (Psalm 36:5).” The Lord does not change, therefore you O sons of Jacob are not consumed (Malachi 3:6). Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, amen (Hebrews 13:8). God, who cannot lie and is faithful to his promises, even those He promised long ago (Titus 1:2).

God is also faithfully working His will in us and through us when we study and obey His Word. The Christ who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). My friends, the Lord is always faithful in sustaining His people. And in the gift of salvation, He forgives when we confess our sins, for he is faithful and righteous to forgive and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). It is because of this that we can rest assured of the goodness of God, finding peace and comfort in the hope of His grace.
