PREPARING HEARTS-FAITHFUL JOURNEY

Preparing Hearts for a Faithful Journey

Every journey with God begins long before the first step is taken. Scripture repeatedly reminds us that the condition of the heart determines the direction of life. As Solomon wisely wrote, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

The people of God have always been called to prepare themselves—not just outwardly, but inwardly. Before Israel crossed the Jordan, Joshua commanded, “Sanctify yourselves: for    tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you”(Joshua 3:5). God did not move them forward until their hearts were ready. Before the journey began, the Lord called His people to prepare within.

Often, the Christian life is described as a walk, a race, or a pilgrimage. For example, Paul exhorted the brethren at Thessalonica, “That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto His kingdom and glory” (1 Thessalonians 2:12). Friends, such a walk does not happen by accident. It comes from hearts shaped by gratitude, faith, and obedience.

Reflecting on the close of another year and the beginning of a new one, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness along the way. As the psalmist declares, “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits” (Psalm 103:2). Forgetting what God has done leads to spiritual instability and a gradual drifting away. But remembrance anchors our hearts, reminds us of His faithfulness to us, and encourages deeper devotion in return. When we remember where the Lord has brought us from and what He has brought us through, we are better prepared to trust Him with where He is leading us.

We also cannot forget that preparation also involves examination. Paul urged, “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves” (2 Corinthians 13:5). A faithful journey requires honest reflection, asking ourselves if our hearts are engaged, our worship sincere, and our service offered willingly to the Lord and not out of a sense of obligation. Preparation is not rooted in fear, but in confidence. “Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). God does not abandon His people in the middle of the journey. He supplies strength for the road ahead.

As we prepare our hearts for this spiritual journey throughout 2026 and the years to come, we are reminded that our ultimate goal is not comfort, but faithfulness. May we ever be mindful of these words, “…Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:1–2). With grateful hearts, obedient lives, and eyes fixed on Christ, we are well equipped for whatever lies ahead. So, may the Lord find us prepared, trusting in Him, relying on His guidance, thankful for His mercy, and ready to walk faithfully wherever He leads.
