The Church of God's Choice

Every Sunday newspapers all across the land publish a page with a heading like: WORSHIP WITH THE CHURCH OF YOUR CHOICE.  It is followed by a listing of just about every church group in the city and surrounding communities.  While choosing when and where to worship is a freedom we enjoy in this country we might want to stop and ask ourselves, “Am I worshipping with the church of God’s choice?”

I am glad that I live in a land that affords religious freedom in lieu of being forced to adhere to a religion of government’s choice.  In some nations of the world the citizens do not have a choice.  They either choose the religion of the government or go underground and worship as they believe and chance being persecuted or prosecuted.

Back to our question.  Have we taken the time to really seek out what God wants?  Paul wrote, "Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is."  Ephesians 5:17  It is easy to pick and choose what we like and what we want.   However, when it comes to God’s will, we must do our very best to find out what it is and then do it.

When Joshua led Israel into the promised land of Canaan the people felt free.  Behind them were the gods of idolatry and wickedness.  Before them were the same gods of idolatry and wickedness in Canaan.  That led Joshua to say to the people... "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."  Joshua 24:15

We have a similar choice when it comes to choosing a church.  Many churches offer all kinds of activities for the whole family.  However, the most important things to seek is a church that is doctrinally sound, biblically organized, worships in spirit and in truth and is evangelistic in focus.
