Does Jesus Live at your House?

A lady answered the knock at her door to find a child there with a Bible in his hand.  Without a word of introduction he asked, “Does Jesus live here?”  The woman was a member of the church, but was so shocked at the unexpected question she couldn’t say a word.  The boy turned and walked away as the lady pondered the question the rest of the day.

When her husband came home that evening she told him of the strange visitor and his provoking question.  He laughed and said, “Why didn’t you show him the church directory with our name in it?  You could have told him we nearly always send our children to Bible class and go sometimes ourselves.  Why didn’t you remind him we give occasionally to the church and look upon ourselves as a respected Christian family?”

She looked at him and said, “Yes, that’s all true, and I could have told him all those things about our family.  But he didn’t ask me the things you mentioned.  He asked me if Jesus lives here and I have been wondering all day if He does.”

How would you answer if someone came to you house and asked you, “Does Jesus live here?”  Be honest.  Would you answer like the man above?  Would you honestly say that you are not sure?  Or would you confidently say, “Yes,  Jesus does live here,” and be truthful in giving that answer?

The truth is, Jesus is living in your house or He is not.  He is either there all the time or He is not there at all.  You see, Jesus lives in the house of the family that puts Him above all else.  He must be above job, recreation, and entertainment.

Jesus said, No one can serve two masters,  for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mammon  (Matthew 5:24).   Does Jesus live at your house?
