Whatcha Wearing?

If we ever get past the winter weather, we can bring out the spring wardrobe.  While this is not an article on proper dress, we all need to watch what we wear as Christians so we will not to be immodest or cause others to sin by how we dress.

There is another kind of dress that Christians wear that is not something to change with the seasons.  It is the spiritual clothing we are to put on when we become a Christian.  Paul wrote in Colossians 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Being raised with Christ is what happens at baptism. Romans 6:4.

Notice the expressions related to spiritual dress found in Colossians 3.   Vs. 5  Put to death you members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness which is idolatry.  Vs. 8-9  But now you yourselves are to put off all these:  anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language,...do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with his deeds.  It is like coming in from a days work.  You take off those dirty clothes and take a bath.  Now that you are clean, what do you do?  Do you put the dirty clothes back on?  Of course you don’t.

Notice how the expressions of dress continue in Colossians 3.  Vs. 10  And have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge… Vs. 12-14  Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another; ... put on love.

The Christian life is a life of change.  Change from living in sin to living in the will of God.  That means when we were baptized we put off the sinful wardrobe of the world and put on the spiritual wardrobe of Christ.  That  also includes what we wear on our physical bodies.  Is it appropriate dress for a Christian?

What are you wearing?
